Background
Born in Edinburgh, but now living in Surrey, Clare has enjoyed the discovery of silversmithing as a second career. She began to explore the creative potential of her practical skills and this led to her decision to study Art and Design. She went on to achieve a First in Three Dimensional Design (Metalwork and Jewellery) from The Surrey Institute of Art and Design, University College.
In 2005, Clare was awarded the BDS New Designers Goldsmiths’ Company Award for Silversmithing and more recently two Gold Awards for her technical and design skills at the 2006 Craftsmanship and Design Awards. One of her pieces is now part of the Goldsmiths’ Contemporary Silver Collection, and she was recently selected to undertake a P&O Makower Trust commission for the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
She is currently undertaking an MA in Contemporary Craft Practice at the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham on a part-time basis, whilst establishing her practice and exhibiting locally and nationally.
